The pandemic COVID-19 is turning out to be a major global crisis. As we have observed, this has impacted the means of livelihood of weaker sections of people in general, and the migrant workers in particular.
JK Tyre, part of JK Organization is committed to support the Government’s efforts and play its part in fighting this pandemic with compassion and resilience.
JK Organization has already committed INR 10 Cr for the fight against Covid-19. Over the past few weeks several initiatives have been implemented by us in response to the crisis as mentioned below;
As a mass campaign, the local communities residing in nearby 50 villages have been made aware about the protective measures against COVID-19. Informative sessions about COVID 19 have been organized for our stakeholders- Business partners, dealers, suppliers, transporters & employees through webinars in collaboration of PSRI Hospital, New Delhi. A large number of banners and posters have been put up at prominent locations to bring awareness amongst people as Corona Virus.
More than 30,000 masks and sanitiser bottles have been distributed among employees & local communities to ensure their safety.

Sustainable LIVELIHOOD
JK Tyre has been committed towards creating better livelihood opportunities for
local communities. Need based and sustainable interventions have been identified to
empower people so they may enhance income and live a better life with dignity.
Livestock Development
Under the livestock development program, artificial insemination, fodder development
and healthcare services are provided at farmers’ doorstep. During last three years
of livestock development program at Morena, MP total 15,027 artificial inseminations
have been performed, 3,159 hybrid calves were born and more than 20,000 cattle were
provided with various other health care services like vaccination, deworming, de-ticking,
fertility treatment, etc.
Dairying for better livelihood-
A case study
Rajaram Sharma. a landless farmer of Veerampura village, Morena, Madhya Pradesh was earning
a meager livelihood from 2 acres leased land and struggled to provide decent living
for a five-member family. Rajaram possesed one local cow yielding a low milk quantity.
There was little hope for Rajaram until he encountered JK Tyre’s Integrated Livestock
Development Centre (one of six), providing artificial insemination and health care
services for dairy animals across Morena. The project team treated Rajaram’s cow
and performed artificial insemination later. The mother cow yielded around 4 litres
of milk per day; the F1 hybrid calf of the same cow yielded 17 litres milk per day.
Suddenly dairying is profitable for Rajaram. He generates around Rs15,000 per month
from milk sale in addition to his daily wage and earning from agriculture. Rajaram
has begun to smile again.
Agricultural improvement
It’s need of the hour to make agriculture more inclusive, technically advanced and
sustainable and therefore efforts have been made to train farmers more specifically
the women farmers about modern agricultural practices like access to latest technology,
high-yielding variety/ seeds, optimum fertilizer regime, pesticides etc. for increasing
agricultural production sustainably.
Skill development
Location specific and market oriented trainings on LMV driving, mobile repairing,
motor winding, beautician, tailoring, etc are imparted to unemployed youths to enhance
their entrepreneurial and employability skills. Many of the participants have been
employed after skill development trainings, while few trainees have initiated their
own enterprises generating employment for many other unemployed youths. We have
also helped women to form self help groups, where they have started small savings
and inter-loaning among SHG members. Later these SHGs are linked to Banks for availing
credit and adequate trainings are provided to initiate income generation activities.

These women are now functionally literate, may read and write with ease, do basic
calculations, help their children in study, started income generation activities
and moving ahead on path of progress and prosperity. The Adult literacy program
at Central Prison, Mysore is a unique initiative and it helped more than 5,500 prison
inmates to become functionally literate. A third party impact assessment of adult
literacy program has revealed that project has been extremely successful. In addition
to educating illiterate rural women, the project had been instrumental in improving
women’s position in society, education of their children, entrepreneurship development;
increase in household income and eventually improvement in quality of life of these
neo-literates.

Clean drinking water project
at Kankroli, Rajasthan- A case study
There was a time when rural women of 13 project villages of Kankroli (Rajasthan)
would need to walk hours each day to fetch water resulting in absence from home,
family neglect and reduced spare time. The result is that life of these women was
reduced to drudgery. Especially for the thousands of women in villages located far
from the main village and not covered under the village water supply scheme. JK
Tyre collaborated with the NGO Seva Mandir to devise an innovative solution. Community
water tanks (13) were built of 4,000- 10,000 liters capacity. Perennial wells and
borewells (13) were created or renovated. Gram Vikas committees were formed to address
operations and maintenance of drinking water supply infrastructure. A water user
fee was imposed to ensure ownership and sustenance of the project. The tank filling
responsibility was delegated to a local youth by committee. Defunct hand pumps were
also repaired. The results have proved transformative: more than 3000 people were
provided a sustainable drinking water solution; health expenditure declined. Freed
from the drudgery of fetching drinking water every single day, women are now paying
a greater attention to their children’s health, education – and their own leisure.
PLANTATION
We have planted more than a million trees at different locations to enrich greenery
and ameliorate environment. Green patches are also maintained for general public
at parks, gardens, traffic circles, road sides, shamshanghat etc.

Road Safety
To generate awareness about road safety, key stakeholders have been identified and
road safety trainings are provided to truckers, drivers, school children and general
public. The road safety awareness programs are implemented in collaboration with
local Traffic Police and other stakeholders and over the years a large number of
people have been trained on various aspects of safe driving and Road Safety.
Driver’s trainings on Tyre
Care & Maintenance
Tyre is the only physical contact that a vehicle has with the road surface, and
therefore while driving, tyres should be in their most optimum condition. Poorly
inflated tyres wear quickly and affect the overall performance of the vehicle, including
braking distance, handling, fuel consumption and safety. The overloading also increases
tyre wear and fuel consumption and adversely affects vehicle handling and stability.
JK Tyre regularly conducts awareness campaigns and trainings programs on Tyre care
and maintenance to reduce accidents caused by faulty tyres and road safety. Our ‘Back
to School’ campaign categorically targets School Bus drivers wherein bus drivers
are trained in proper tyre care and responsible driving ensuring safety for students,
road users, etc, greater tyre life and better mileage.
INFRASTRUCTURAL SUPPORT
Infrastructure development is the key to rural development. We have supported school
buildings, community halls, orphanage buildings, etc. A state of the art JK Stadium
has been developed at Kankroli, Rajasthan where local youths are availing best in
class class sports facilities for state/ national level competitions.
